In honor of the 100th annual International Woman’s Day I have curated a list of interesting things about, for, or derived from women. Read on!
Published in February 2011 “I’ll Show You Mine“ is an educational picture book of women’s vulvas. The book was conceived by an exotic dancer, who noted a surprising trend toward labiaplasty in her line of work. The lack of educational materials about sexuality has left pornography as the default teacher, leading young men and women to believe that there is only one acceptable size and shape for female genitalia. She wanted to give women, and men, a broader view of what normal vulvas can look like. The book is available online through Show Off Books.
Yikes! I don’t know what to think about Vulva Original. It is “the feminine, erotic, intimate scent for your smelling pleasure” and it appears to be a real product! Developed by the German company Vivaeros, their vision was to come up with an erotic product that stood out, both conceptually and visually from anything currently available. They noticed that the global erotic market was not capitalizing on the powerful ability of scent to awaken erotic thoughts, and set out to remedy that. Well good on them, what a bunch of entrepreneurs.
Innovative or Creepy or Both?
But the questions are endless: What do you use it for? Who does it smell like? How did they “capture” the fragrance? What fragrance, exactly, did they capture? Anywaaaayyy… if you’ve got 24 extra Euros lying around I guess you could order a bottle and satisfy any curiosity that may have piqued.
From the beautiful to the functional to the hilarious, www.yoni.com has a plethora of vulva themed gifts. Vaginal barbells anyone?
To promote a strong pelvic floor
I was skeptical about this Disney movie about menstruation from 1946, but it’s actually quite lovely, except for the part in the beginning where the baby girl appears to be wearing lipstick and false eyelashes while she naps.
Woo-Hoo! “In many of the places where it counts the most, women are, in fact, taking control of everything” Watch this TEDTalk by Hanna Rosin to find out more.
More good news: If you’re familiar with the Fertility Awareness Method and want to chart on your iPhone, you can download Kindara for iPhone.
Happy Woman’s Day!
