I haven't had a period for 11 months now. I also haven't had a sexual
partner for 1 year, and now for the past 2 mornings lots of fluid (water) comes out of my lady-privates. What is this?
Hi Miss Foxy,
The watery gushes you are experiencing could be watery cervical fluid. This could mean that your body is gearing up to ovulate, hence the sudden presence of cervical fluid after a general lack of cervical fluid over the past 11 months.
There are several things that may be causing you to not have your period. According to the The Practice Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the most common reason for secondary amenorrhea (a fancy term that really means not getting a period) is having low amounts of Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH).
Low FSH can be caused by sudden weight loss, eating disorders, an underactive thyroid, nutritional deficiencies (such as Celiac disease), stress, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, overproduction of cortisol (Cushing syndrome), vigorous exercise, and breastfeeding. The second-most common reason for anovulation is gonadal (ovarian) failure.
A doctor will be able to help you figure out what specifically is causing your lack of periods. Tracking your cycle can also be extremely helpful in figuring out your body’s natural time table for ovulation and can illuminate if your daily fertility signs are either missing or not giving accurate information, which may help point to the reason behind not getting your period for 11 months.
